Lennox Furnace Replacement in Ancaster After Failed Safety Inspection

AirPro Heating & Cooling recently completed a furnace replacement in Ancaster, Ontario, after a 13-year-old Goodman furnace was found to have a defective heat exchanger and elevated carbon monoxide levels during a safety inspection.
The homeowners decided to replace the aging furnace before the upcoming heating season.
The Existing Goodman Furnace
The home was heated by a 13-year-old Goodman GMH950703BXAG furnace.
The GMH95 is a 70,000 BTU, two-stage, 96.1% AFUE high-efficiency furnace.
During a safety inspection, carbon monoxide levels were found to be over 500 PPM, and the furnace was identified as having a defective heat exchanger.
An A Tag was issued on September 30, 2026, citing violations 4.21.1 and 4.5.2.
After the required information was completed, the A Tag was submitted to Enbridge.
With the heating season approaching, the homeowners decided to replace the 13-year-old furnace rather than continue using a furnace with a defective heat exchanger. The replacement was completed by AirPro on October 7, 2026.

Choosing a Replacement Furnace
AirPro Heating & Cooling replaced the Goodman furnace with a Lennox ML296UH070XV36BK.
The new furnace is:
70,000 BTU
Two-stage operation
96% AFUE
Lennox ML296UH series
The new Lennox is essentially a same-class replacement for the existing Goodman, with the same 70,000 BTU capacity, two-stage operation, and approximately 96% efficiency.
Rather than changing the home's heating capacity, the replacement maintained a similar heating configuration while providing the homeowners with a new furnace.
Furnace Replacement in Ancaster
AirPro removed the existing Goodman furnace and installed the new Lennox system.
The new furnace was connected, set up, and tested after installation to verify normal heating operation and safe system performance.
The completed installation replaced the 13-year-old Goodman with a new Lennox high-efficiency furnace while maintaining the home's existing heating capacity and two-stage configuration.
From a Safety Concern to Furnace Replacement
This project is an example of why an older furnace with a suspected heat exchanger problem should be professionally inspected before deciding whether to repair or replace it.
In this case, the inspection identified carbon monoxide levels over 500 PPM and a defective heat exchanger. With the Goodman furnace already 13 years old and the heating season approaching, the homeowners chose replacement rather than investing further in an aging system.
The A Tag was issued on September 30, and the furnace replacement was completed on October 7, just before the heating season.
For homeowners in Ancaster with an older furnace, repeated repairs, or concerns about furnace safety, a professional assessment can help determine whether repair or replacement is the more practical option.

The new system provides the home with a new high-efficiency furnace while maintaining the same general heating capacity and two-stage configuration as the previous Goodman.
